General Summary:  The Project Director is responsible for developing and leading the deployment of distribution center design and material handling solutions for Peach State clients. This position collaborates with the Global Consulting and Engineering team to develop new service offerings, identify new client opportunities, and develop tools and processes to streamline the delivery of distribution and logistics engineering solutions for clients. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts data collection, analysis, conceptual design, detailed design and evaluation of alternatives for global consulting and engineering solutions, with a primary focus on distribution center layout and design.
  • Facilitates effective project management during implementation and performs the roles and activities (scheduling, financial management, customer relationship management, team performance management) associated with project management for multi-week customer engagements.
  • Provides timely status reports to Management and Clients regarding project updates and year-to-date performance.
  • Develops and prepares financial spreadsheets analysis (ROI, EVA, etc.) findings to support project justification and presents proposals and findings to executives.
  • Supports the development and deployment of all market driven offering opportunities within the Global Consulting and Engineering Services group.
  • Continually evaluates the Supply Chain industry to identify opportunities to enhance the Peach State service offering and value proposition for our customers.
  • Supports the organization in pursuit of new business opportunities through identifying prospective customers and developing new business growth.
  • Supports all Peach State consulting offerings including, but not limited to, logistics engineering services (LES), distribution engineering services (DES), operational excellence projects (OEX), and warehouse management system’s selection and assessment services.
  • Represents Peach State professionally in internal and external business meetings.
  • Actively participates in team activities that promote a sense of “esprit de corps” amongst the Peach State Team.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong competency in all aspects of distribution design including facility requirements and sizing, equipment and sub-system development and application, order fulfillment methodology application, warehouse management systems, installation and project management, and control systems.
  • Knowledge of Distribution Operations and Material Handling Equipment/Systems is critical.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Access, Excel, Visio, Word, PPT, Project) and SQL database tools.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD design tools preferred.
  • Skilled in customer relations using excellent written, verbal, presentation and listening skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to drive change within the organization and lead a cross functional team in an execution based role.
  • Ability to develop sound material handling equipment investment estimates for alternative comparison.
  • Ability to determine staffing requirements for alternative solutions to be used for the quantification of solution benefits.
  • Ability to define business scenarios and analyze what-if alternatives.
  • Ability to handle and solve complex situations professionally and anticipate future problems.
  • Ability to think strategically and develop solutions and plans based on broad business considerations.
  • Ability to plan goals, objectives, and follow through on the execution of a project.
  • Ability to create, maintain and manage project schedules and budgets.
  • Ability to multi-task and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously to ensure timely completion of responsibilities.


Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Logistics or Industrial Distribution and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the design and development of complex distribution environments (high volume, high SKU, broken case pick, material handling automation, etc.) is required.
  • Extensive project management experience as the lead on long term, high value projects and implementing solutions into a ‘live’ business environment is required. Must be proficient in use of Microsoft products including Excel, Project, PPT and Word.
